Chris Stuart and Backcountry

Eric Uglum is now a full-time member of the band, replacing Mason Tuttle on guitar. Eric is one of the best guitarists and singers around and we're really glad he's in the band now with his two boys, Austin and Christian.

Mason has decided to pursue a career and spend more time at home with his wife Anna and their new dog, Hamish. Mason is a great musician and a wonderful guy, and we'll miss him a lot. He was darn near the perfect bandmate. If you want to send him Burger King coupons, please do. He'll need his fill of fast food now that he's off the road. . . . Please send to Mason Tuttle at 1310 Jackson St., Missoula, MT 59802

The new album by Eric Uglum, Austin Ward and Christian Ward, is doing really well and getting a lot of airplay. You can buy it from our website or from iTunes or from cdbaby.com or other download sites. You can also listen to short samples of each song too.

The album include songs by Patrick Brayer ("Paper Heart"), Christian Ward (a fiddle tune called "Stonewall), two new songs by Chris Stuart ("The Old Road to Jerusalem" and "First Train Robbery"), a song by Byron Berline, "Sweet Memory Waltz", as well as wonderful new renditions of "Life is Like a Mountain Railway" and "Old Blue." Each track is a gem.

Sightings from the Mysterious Road:

We had a great time on our Minnesota trip in February. Everybody was wonderful up there, even if it was 10 degrees. . . one of the cool venues was the Pioneer Place Theater in St. Cloud, Minnesota, where they proudly display one of the oldest. . . uh. . still working. . . urinals in North America. The plaque is well worth reading...

My article on Del McCoury that originally appeared in Bluegrass Unlimited magazine is part of a collection of the best Country Music writing for 2007. Check out the Country Music Reader 2007, edited by Randy Rudder. Jon Weisberger also has a great article on Earl Scruggs in it.

I'll have an article coming out on Laurie Lewis in the April BU, and am working on articles on Larry Cordle and David Grisman.
